Welcome to Dancing Giraffe, a Colchester-based organisation that is trying to bring new opportunities to disabled people throughout Essex.
Dancing Giraffe is a unique online community website bringing dedicated information, news and opportunities to the Essex disabled community, our carers, families and support network. The organisation is run primarily by volunteers, and as well as bringing a huge range of professional and commercial experience to the project, many of the team have disabilities themselves.
A not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) Dancing Giraffe was devised and founded by Colchester businessman and disability campaigner Shaun Moffat who is sight impaired.
After some 18 months in planning, and thanks to a Big Lottery grant, in January 2012 Dancing Giraffe has become a reality.
Dancing Giraffe is simply about enabling people to access information, products and services that we need or want to use every day, whether that’s sporting opportunities, cultural experiences, travel, restaurants or goods and services. For the first time, through dancinggiraffe.com we will be able to register, log on and access information and services relevant to our individual needs.
Watch as Dancing Giraffe evolves. Or, better still, get involved!
Mission Statement The aim of Dancing Giraffe is to provide a platform to inspire, inform and represent the Essex disabled community. Through this internet portal, Dancing Giraffe will offer support and advice for people with disabilities, their carer/s, professionals, organisations and the media. It will bring together comprehensive information and data about services and facilities available and will present them in one easy to access place. Dancing Giraffe will also provide a forum for disabled people to discuss and compare access issues and solutions.
Dancing Giraffe is a Community Interest Company. This means we operate 'not-for-profit' as required by the CIC Regulator.
