Mary Poppins Returns (U)

Thursday 28 March 11.00am, 2.00pm & 7.30pm
Chelmsford Picture House

Picture shows what appears to be Mary Poppins, three children and Bert the chimney sweep. The exact characterisation is unclear. They are falling with a building behind them, but they have joined hands and perhaps magic will save them.

Nostalgic and warm, Blunt shines as Mary Poppins in Rob Marshall’s sequel to a cult classic.

“Nothing’s gone forever, only out of place”

Starring Emily Blunt, Ben Whishaw, Dick Van Dyke
Directed by Rob Marshall
Running time: 130 minutes

Now fully grown, the Banks children are clearing out Michael’s attic in the dire hopes of finding a document that will save him from having his house repossessed. Bank Teller Michael (Whishaw) is crippled under the pressure of financial debt and familial responsibilities – the magic in his life has truly gone. Or perhaps he just needs reminding? Cue their fantastical childhood nanny, umbrella and all, floating over the grainy, charcoaled London sky of 1935 to bring warmth and enchantment to their lives once again.
