Dancing Giraffe are entering teams in to the UK’s only disability sports series and we’re asking for your help.
The Superhero Tri Series is a summer triathlon event being held on the 18th of August at Dorney Lake, Windsor. The D.G team will be taking on the event, which consists of swimming, cycling and running – three of the most popular disability sports. We are one of the many teams taking part in the event and we’re doing so to raise both funds and awareness for Dancing Giraffe and the great work that we do in the Essex region.
Sophia Warner, the series’ founder has spoken about why the Superhero Tri Series was created: “I’m a mum, a Paralympian and a huge lover of sport.”
“As an athlete I was very fortunate to be given access to an entire world of sporting opportunities. But as an everyday person with a disability looking to do sports events for fun I’ve found it a real struggle.”
So what is a triathlon?
Essentially, It’s a three-stage race. Open water swimming, a bike stage and finally a run.
However, with the Superhero Tri you can choose to do a whole triathlon or team up and do one stage as a relay.
Something new being added for this year’s event will be the Superhero Charge (3km). This one-stage lakeside challenge invites Superheroes to run, walk, cycle, push, be pushed or anything in between along the 3km course.
Who can take part?
The Tri series involves challenges that let participants do as little or as much as they want, with as little or as much support as they need. The event is aimed at everyone from athletes to beginners and welcomes spectators.
If you would like to take part yourself, participants wanting to enter a solo race must consider themselves to have a disability.
If taking part in a team then there must be at least one participant in each team who considers themselves disabled. The Dancing Giraffe teams will be made up of both disabled and non-disabled participants.
Can you help?
If you would like to help the Dancing Giraffe teams, we would love to hear from you. Don’t worry, you don’t have to do the triathlon if you don’t want to!
There are many ways to help us and we would greatly appreciate your support in any form it may take. Perhaps you can help with transport on the day? Maybe you would like to come and support us at the event? Perhaps you can help us with our training for the event?
If you think you may be able to help, please get in touch with us at: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01206 212469.
Of course, if you know someone who may be interested in sponsoring the teams, please let us know! The event involves numerous costs including entry fees, transport and equipment, all of which we are presently funding ourselves.
If you would like to discuss the possibility of helping us with these, we would be very grateful! We can be reached on the above email address or phone number.
