Funds available for people with disabilities to work in politics and public service

Are you interested in a career in politics or public service? Do you want to give back to your community?

If so, there is now financial support available to help people with disabilities overcome any barriers to becoming local Councilors, Police and Crime Commissioners, or MP’s.

In recognition of the proportional deficit of disabled people active in the general mainstream political arena, and also in view of the extra costs people with disabilities encounter to enable their talents and personal effectiveness to be publicly and equally included, the government has introduced a £2.6 million fund to assist candidates with disabilities fulfill their potential in the political and public life of the nation.

Awarded individual grants can range between £250 to £10,000.

In addition to this financial support offered, a new online training package is freely available and tailored for disabled people who wish to pursue a political career.
