Razed Roof, a charitable group that works with people who have disabilities and learning difficulties, has been chosen as a ‘charity of the year’ by a leading Harlow organisation.
The inclusive performing arts group Razed Roof, which is based at Harlow Playhouse, is one of two charities for 2013, selected by Harlow Business Exhibitions Ltd. The other chosen charity is CanalAbility (formerly the Canal Boat Project), a group dedicated to providing holidays to disabled people as well as community and youth groups.
Originally launched in 2004, the drama group comprises of 40 members including adults with special needs, supported by an experienced team of staff, volunteers and young people from mainstream education, providing opportunities for performing publicly.
Razed Roof is also involved in a number of community projects with different groups and partners including primary, secondary and Special Schools.
Essentially, the group aims to build social skills, work skills and the confidence needed to work in the performing arts industry.
As part of the charity of the year partnership with the Harlow Business Exhibitions, Razed Roof will not only benefit from funds raised throughout 2013, but from the chance to work with business trustees in launching new partnerships.
Ian Hudson, a Director of Harlow Business Exhibitions Ltd, said: “We are delighted to have chosen Razed Roof as one of our two charities for 2013, as they were recommended to us by Harlow & District Chamber of Commerce. We are looking forward to working closer with them and we will be doing everything we can to help them.”
Annette Lidster, Artistic Director of Razed Roof, said: “We are overjoyed the Harlow Chamber of Commerce has recognised Razed Roof as an exciting and vibrant group worthy of their support; their wealth of experience and expertise will bring tremendous benefits to our charity.”
Razed Roof plans to celebrate winning ‘charity of the year’ and launching a whole new image at a special event to be held on January 10th, at the Harlow Playhouse.
