To celebrate Brightlingsea becoming the next place for public services to collaborate in an innovative property sharing initiative, Essex Police and the County Fire service are holding a special open day.

Brightlingsea is the latest location where the two teams have joined forces by moving the Neighbourhood Policing Team into a renovated fire station.

Much like sharing agreements already established in Tiptree, West Mersea and Wivenhoe, the partnership allows both organisations to save money on running costs and the future sale of uninhabited buildings.

On the 18th of May, Sparks Will Fly (SwF), a piece of outdoor theatre commissioned by Essex County Council and Chelmsford Borough Council will begin celebrations for the Olympic torch to arrive in the county.

If so, the North Essex Partnership Foundation Trust (NEPFT) is holding a "Leap against stigma" conference on the 14th of May and would like to see you.

From 12pm on Monday visitors will be able to attend workshops in Chelmsford on a range of mental health conditions and services, everything from schizophrenia to tackling stigma in schools and the workplace. A special guest speaker from the Royal College of Psychiatrists will also be in attendance.

For carers of children with learning disabilities and their non-disabled siblings, Southend Mencap has released details of their summer term Family Play and Respite Club at Eastwood High School (Rayleigh Road). Children aged five to 16 years old are looked after by professional staff in a secure environment while their support network has some much needed time off.

In collaboration with Essex County Council Libraries and Inclusive Communication Essex (ICE), a new sensory room and wall has been developed for children to enjoy. A unique feature in libraries, the wall was created in response to feedback from the parents of those with learning difficulties. The hope was that a facility could be built to give children an area to play in.

Action for Family Carers (AFFC) would like to invite carers in the local area to a new support group starting this 23rd of April.

If you are a carer and are looking for someone to talk to, feel you need a bit of support, are seeking some information, or would simply like to meet other carers in similar positions to you, then head to the Carer Support Group which will be held on the fourth Monday of every month from 10am - 12pm.

A new weekly class to help people with chronic illness and pain is to begin next week. Following a free taster session, Louise Fortunato (BWY Dip yoga teacher and IYT Dip Yoga therapist) will be holding 'Mindful Movement' classes at The Hythe, Colchester, every Tuesday evening from 6.30pm to 8pm.

Last week a Temporary Use Ban was called into effect by Veolia Water in the Southeast of the UK. Now, a list of policy exceptions has been released to set out the terms and conditions that apply to watering plants on domestic or non-commercial premises. The move follows months of exceptionally low rainfall, making the last two years the driest period since 1900.
