Ring your bells for the country this 27th July

Thursday 05th Jul 12

Join in the bell-ringing fun and create a cacophonous symphony of sound waves throughout Great Britain on 27th July at 08.12am.

Turner prize-winning artist and musician, Martin Creed, is inviting the any and all residents of the United Kingdom to assist him in performing his piece Work No. 1197; commissioned as part of the London 2012 festival to celebrate the opening of the Olympic and Paralympic events.

All bells, including clock, bike, church, hand, door, school, and any sort of bell you choose and have available, should be rung with gusto and finesse according to your pre-disposition and mood.

The coordinated, nationwide bell-ringing is to be broadcast live across all BBC Radio, TV, and online services.

Essex County Councillor and Cabinet Minister of Customer Services Environment and Culture, Jeremy Lucas has chimed in by urging Essex to take up this challenge and legitimately defy any social sound barriers on this historic occasion:

“The uptake on this shows how everyone in the country is getting into the whole Olympic experience so I encourage everyone in Essex to join in the fun by ringing their bells and show the world how excited we are in Essex to be hosting the mountain bike competition at Hadleigh”
