Transport for London announces road closures during the Olympic and Paralympic Games

As our capital city turns into a huge sporting and cultural venue for the 2012 Games, Transport for London has released details of a number of Olympic and Paralympic events that are being held across London’s road network.

The dates affected are listed as the 28th, 29th and 31st July; 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 11th and 12th August and 9th September.

Roads will be closed along the routes at certain times and places. Many buses will also be affected. Full details will be made available from July on the TfL website and at affected bus stops.

The following events in particular will result in significant travel disruption:

Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th July: Men’s and Women’s Cycling Road Races (central London to Box Hill, Surrey via Fulham, Putney, Richmond, Hampton Court, Weybridge, Woking, Dorking, Leatherhead, Esher and Kingston)

Wednesday 1st August: Men’s and Women’s Road Cycling Time Trials (Hampton Court Palace via East Molesey, West Molesey, Thames Ditton, Esher, Whiteley Village, Hinchley Wood, Surbiton, Kingston, Hampton Wick and Teddington)

Thursday 2nd, Saturday 4th and Tuesday 7th August: Triathlon Technical Rehearsal, Women’s Triathlon and Men’s Triathlon (Hyde Park Corner area)

Sunday 5th and Sunday 12th August and Sunday 9th September: Women’s Olympic Marathon, Men’s Olympic Marathon and Paralympic Marathons (Westminster to City of London)

TfL is urging motorists not to be caught out by these events and to avoid driving in these areas.
