Riverside Car Parking Arrangements for Blue Badge

Posted · Add Comment

With the consequential reduction in car parking capacity at the site Chelmsford City Council wanted to reassure you that they will be retaining the recommended percentage of disabled car parking spaces during the construction project.

On the 10th July the Undercroft car park will close for 2 weeks whilst Kier erect their site hoarding to separate the Undercroft from the construction site. During this Early Works contract Kier will construct a new entrance and exit linking Waterloo Lane directly to the Undercroft car park and Building Services will oversee a direct works contract to revise the car parking bay configuration. This will include a reduction in the number of disabled bays to reflect the reduced overall car parking capacity on site (all disabled parking bays for the Riverside and Undercroft car parks are located within the Undercroft).

When the Undercroft car park re-opens on the 24th July the main Riverside car park will close (it becomes the construction site for the new building) and the perception of disabled car park users might be that the situation appears worse (because we have removed disabled bays that would have been provided for both car parks). Whereas in actual fact the proportion of disabled bays will be 6% of the available capacity in line with recommended practice.
