Football

Essex currently boasts two football league clubs and a thriving non-league scene meaning that, where ever you are based in the region, there is club near to you at which you are welcome to go and watch a game. Dancing Giraffe has contacted football clubs of all standing throughout the region asking about their provision for Disabled supporters and we are delighted to say that many have agreed to have their details publicised on the site. We are also very pleased to include details for C&K Basildon Ladies FC, Essex’s top women’s team and with England’s remarkable showing at the World Cup in 2015, the Ladies’ game has never been so popular. Home fixtures and details for each club can be seen below:

It would be fair to say that Chelmsford City FC have had a more eventful history than most other clubs. Formed in 1938 following the folding of the original amateur side, Chelmsford have enjoyed numerous cup runs, even playing in the Anglo-Italian Cup in 1976 and have seen International players such as Nigel Spink, Alan Brazil and Jimmy Greaves wear the famous claret shirt. The turn of the century was a challenging time, with financial difficulties forcing the club to leave their New Writtle street stadium and temporarily play outside of the city. Thankfully though, they are now back playing in Chelmsford and 2016 marks the tenth anniversary of the club’s return. Their Melbourne Community stadium is served with free parking, including a small number of spaces available for disabled fans with a blue badge; early arrival is recommended as these spaces can fill up quickly. Free parking can also be found in the nearby streets; however you are urged to park responsibility and adhere to any restrictions that may be in operation. The stadium can also be reached by bus, with numbers 54 and 56 regularly running from Chelmsford bus station and stopping close to the ground. Disabled fans are charged the normal admission price; however an accompanying qualified carer will be admitted free of charge. Disabled toilets can be found in the main club house, one at ground level in the “Clarets Bar” and another upstairs – there is a lift wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair user and their carer. Chelmsford pride themselves on their reputation as a community-based family club and so should you have any queries about your visit, you are encouraged to get in touch with the club directly.
