After a six year wait, racing has now returned to the Chelmsford City racecourse. Following a huge investment, the venue is now equipped with an all-weather track, new grandstand and is also the first in the country to hold night races. The British Horseracing Authority appears to have been suitably impressed with these alterations and have officially granted the track 58 fixtures for the 2015 season. Located in Great Leighs, five miles north of Chelmsford, the track is close to the A131 and A120 and has a free car park which includes 30 spaces for disabled people (Blue Badges must be displayed). Entrance to the venue is via a level floored building and you can carry on to the centre of the course via a pedestrian tunnel and a sloped winding path approximately 130 metres in length. There are rest stops on this path every 50 metres and once at the centre, any area not at ground level can be reached by lift or ramp. There are several disabled toilets located around the ground and also a dedicated viewing area next to the main grandstand, this is manned by stewards at all times and chairs are available on request. Personal assistants are allowed in free of charge; however please contact the venue’s sales team prior to your visit to arrange entry. Certain areas of the course operate a strict dress code, to read more on this please click here.

The Chelmsford City Racecourse website has a page providing in depth information on accessibility, to see it please click here.

Situated just north of Cambridge, Cottenham Racecourse is home to many Point-to-Point meetings throughout the winter months. With racing fixtures taking place as far back as the 1860s and countless visits from Royalty ever since that time, Cottenham has a long and proud tradition of horseracing which looks set to continue for many years yet. The course is equipped with a viewing platform for wheelchair users and preferential parking spaces can be provided if you contact the course organisers in advance. Please bear in mind that due to the nature of Point-to-Point in general, bad weather can make it difficult to get around the course so it is wise to check both the forecast and the course website/facebook page before you attend a fixture.

Both Chelmsford City and Cottenham racecourses have given us permission to host links to their websites

This page is kept up to date as much as possible, however factors such as bad weather can cause fixtures to be postponed or changed at late notice, so we would advise you to check the racecourse’s website or social media accounts if you are in any doubt.

If you contact the racecourses, we would appreciate it if you could mention that you saw their details on the Dancing Giraffe website.
