Summer at Colchester Museums

Visitors to Colchester and Ipswich Museums will soon be able to discover more about the towns’ natural science collections, thanks to a £87,255 grant from the John Ellerman Foundation. The successful bid will help support the ‘Evolving our Natural Science project which aims to raise awareness of the important natural science collections in both towns, and enable visitors to learn more about their local wildlife. This month sees the opening of an exciting new exhibition at Colchester Castle to commemorate the First World War. By looking back at the First World War from a local perspective we explore how the town played such a vital role in the war effort, being so close to the frontline. If you are coming to the exhibition please make sure you take some time to admire the spectacular flower display in Castle Park to mark the centenary. Find out more here

This summer Colchester Castle will be hosting a series of Roman Invader interactive sessions. Designed to capture the imagination the programme helps children discover the archaeology of a grisly past through these fun sessions. Suitable for aged 5+, booking required please call 01206 282941. Colchester Museums Visitor Services Team have made the final shortlist in the Visitor Experience Team of the Year category at this year’s Visitor Experience Awards. The team have been recognised for delivering consistently excellent customer service and exceeding visitor expectations. They will find out if they are successful on the 8 August.
