Those based in the Clacton area may be interested to hear of a centre providing a range of activities for people with both learning and physical disabilities.

The Willow Park Resource Centre, based in Weeley, houses a range of facilities that will ensure that all can enjoy a fun-filled learning experience. Amongst these facilities are Sensory Rooms, a Hydrotherapy Pool, Gymnasium and a large theatre space with stage and lighting.

Clare Gibbons, one of Willow Park’s highly trained members of staff, explains the centre’s aspirations, “At Willow Park Resource Centre our aim is always to provide stimulation through a wide range of enjoyable activities. Our trained staff are here to help each individual reach their personal goals through a fun-filled learning process, helping to build their self-confidence.”

This self-confidence boost is achieved through the running of various workshops at the centre, including:

  • Arts, Crafts and Pottery
  • Music and Movement
  • Drama
  • Cookery
  • Health and Fitness
  • Interactive Computer Studies

These workshops are available at different times each day, allowing you to create your own ‘learning through leisure plan’. There is also the opportunity to socialise at the centre’s own American themed retro diner serving food between 11am-2pm each day.

In nearby Jaywick Lane, the Centre also run a farm where people can interact with animals such as pigs, chickens and even alpacas! Those that attend the farm can collect eggs and learn how to size and pack them. They will also learn husbandry including feeding, animal care, grooming, incubation, mucking out and much more.

In addition, the centre provides a fully accessible minibus service offering comfortable seating and spaces for wheelchair users. There are also fully equipped changing facilities.

If you are interested in having a taster session at the centre, or just simply want to know more, you are encouraged to get in touch! You are welcome to call the centre on 01255 831302 or email reception@willowparkresourcecentre.co.uk.

Many thanks to Clare Gibbons for help with writing this article.
